TUNISIA - A group of internet activists 'attack' several Tunisia government sites in protest of excessive censorship on the North African country.

'Anonymous', which has recently also attacked a number of sites and WikiLeaks opponents services, reportedly has successfully closed the official website of the government, stock exchanges, as well as some other sites.

"In addition, we also have taken steps to ensure that every citizen of Tunisia can be connected to the internet anonymously and access information without having to be known by the government," the group said in a statement as reported by the Straits Times on Thursday (01/06/2011).

The group claims to have launched the 'attack' DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) to the official sites of the government of Tunisia, where a large number of computers ordered to incriminate the relevant site server with virtual traffic, slow service, or even make the site completely offline .

Action was done as a form of their protest against Tunisia in the levels of government censors the Internet activity of its citizens. In addition to blocking sites the bloggers who are opposed to government censorship also applies to sites like Flickr and the site or any news source that says Wikileaks.

Based on press freedom index published by the media supervisory body, Reporters Without Borders, Tunisia is running a pretty tight censorship. Evidently, Tunisia was ranked 164 of 178 countries that are often censored in cyberspace.
