EDINBURGH - Be careful in using social networking sites "shared location" like the Foursquare, Koprol and other similar services. A man in Edinburgh, Scotland, admitted being followed for nine months by a woman who followed the movement in cyberspace.

Lothian and Borders Police received a complaint from a 26-year freelance designer from Stockbridge, Edinburgh. The man was admitted often followed by a woman 22 years, who met in an exhibition last year. This woman who has followed the designer in secret for nine months.

After meeting exhibition, the woman sent him an email and SMS and call her every day. She even often appear in places you've visited the man, even though they had just met. Known, the woman track the presence of the victim through the site location tracker Foursquare, the user can 'check in' to share information about their whereabouts with friends.

Designers were finally contacted the police after the woman sent an email to his clients as well as send some message with a false name and pretend to be interested hire him. Derek Graham, who works for an Internet Investigations Unit Lothian and Borders Police, claiming that this is the first case he encountered.

"Foursquare has been rampant. Up also launched a similar application where you can tell your location," said Graham. "Currently, all people interact online and it also has an impact on crime. You have to be careful with the information you provide (in cyberspace)," he continued.
