Skype Acquire StartUp Smartphone Video
LAS VEGAS - Skype reached an agreement to buy Qik, a pioneering company (startup) from California that offers solutions for real-time video streaming via phone, web and desktop platforms.

Skype chief executive, Tony Bates, the deal was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Although he refused to reveal financial details, Business Insider claims to have confirmation from two sources that the deal is valued at US$150 million.

Skype will use this acquisition to enhance their capabilities by adding video streaming capabilities of recording, sharing and Storing Qik in the portfolio company.

"Qik has contributed a great video services to their partners and millions of users who use a variety of devices," Bates said as quoted by Red Herring, Friday (1/7/2011). "Capability owned Qik and strong relationships with (phone companies) will be a complement to Skype's impressive," adds Bates.

Founded in 2006 ago, Qik currently has approximately five million users who can use their services in more than 200 variants of mobile phones, both in platform Android, iPhone, Symbian, Blackberry and Windows Mobile. While CEO of Qik, Vijay Tella, explained, "Joining the Skype allows us to unite with Skype talented team to develop new products and innovative for our customers and partners."
